Warface review

(first off sorry for not posting more frequently)

Warface is a  free to play first person shooter made by crytek (they made the crysis series) built on a modified cryengine 3 game engine. The game was released in Russia around 2010 and closed beta began 2011 in the U.S. and a console port for the xbox 360 coming in 2014. For about 1.5 years the us version has been in development and then a very exclusive closed beta period. I would have reviewed this game earlier (I was in closed beta) but I wanted to wait until the game went public (it's currently in public beta so the game is still a work in progress)

The plot to Warface is that after a huge economic crisis a military power known as blackwood owns a majority of the worlds wealth which they protect with a massive amount of soldiers, tanks, choppers and mechs. Warface comes in to stop these corrupt beings from ruling the world by utilizing a small but highly trained amount of soldiers to slowly tear apart the blackwood corporation little by little.

Usually when you hear a game is free to play you think its just another crappy half assed game that's not fun and only gets fun when you put money into it to get unfair advantages over other players, this is not the case for warface! The graphics of this game are on par to most paid videogames I have seen, a majority of the weapons and gear in this game can be obtained simply by earning the in-game currency and the game is ever growing with new co-op and versus maps and gametypes. The game runs over about 115 fps on medium quality for my computer but has the option to lower them to the point where even a low grade laptop could manage playing the game.

While you have your standard game modes like team deathmatch, capture the flag and free for all Warface really wants players to focus on teamwork in the co-op mode. In co-op you play as a small group of Warface soldiers as you fight blackwood troops across the world in varied locations for the assets they supply. The ideal way to play this is with a balanced team with each player being one of the four classes. (the assault, engineer, medic or sniper) They force you to rely on teammates by making parts of the game only accesible through buddy boosting each other over walls or having to help a teammate up after they were knocked to the ground. ( along with resupplying ammunition medical treatment and fixing armor) Unlike many games where the co-op aspect seems to be more of a gimmick the co-op in warface is a fun experience to have with friends you know or by making new ones through playing the game.

Two things unique to warface that I thought were very interesting was the on the fly weapon customization, this lets players re adapt their weapon to different situations by attaching and removing scopes, silencers, grips and other things which really helps in certain situations. The way you obtain these attachments is through warfaces unlock system. New weapons, items, and attachments can be obtained simply by playing the game enough, there are three categories when the bar is filled from earning enough points in the weapon, item or attachment category you are awarded whatever was displayed in the box permanently (this is to my knowledge I do not know if some items are only semi permanent)

I give warface public beta a 9.5/10 there really isn't much more you can ask for in a free game that warface has not done yet or is planning to do upon the finalized version
